What to See and Do in Orkney

The Mainland is the largest island of Orkney. Kirkwall lies on a narrow strip of land between West Mainland (the major portion) and East Mainland. Kirkwall on Mainland Orkney is the administrative capital of the Orkney Islands. Both of Orkney's burghs, Kirkwall and Stromness, are on this island, which is also the heart of Orkney's transportation system, with ferry and air connections to the other islands and to the outside world. With its beautiful stained glass windows, this impressive building still dominates the town centre of Kirkwall, over 860 years after the initial building began.

For its importance we have individual section for Kirkwall (What to See and Do in Kirkwall, Orkney).
