    Oban is a busy, bustling town. The fishing port is extremely hectic and the town is the main ferry terminal in the area for the western islands.

    You will find all of the large major shops here, as well as laundry facilities, hospital, pharmacy and everything else you would expect in such a busy small town.

  • Kerrera Island is a lovely island which is mainly used as a mooring and for farming. It is possible to walk round the island but be warned that this walk is about 10 miles and will take you some time. It took us four hours and we were pretty tired by the time we got back. However the castle (Castle Gylen) is very pretty as is the whole island.

  • The north of Rabbit islands are purported to have a wreck on them, I suspect it is the Ashbury miss-reported, however the northern island is called Eilain-nan-or, island of gold, and an Armada ship was supposed to have unloaded something in the area………

  • The Rabbit Islands
    Bonnie Prince Charles was said to have lost a sailing ship, the "Hazard" on the Rabbit Islands! In 1745, a sailing ship carrying provisions and gold for the Prince ran aground here and the French Troops sent to recover them were captured by the Scots!

  • The Mainland is the largest island of Orkney. Kirkwall lies on a narrow strip of land between West Mainland (the major portion) and East Mainland. Kirkwall on Mainland Orkney is the administrative capital of the Orkney Islands.
