KIRKWALL MARINA
A 95 berth marina within the harbour and just yards from the attractions of this ancient port. Accessible at all states of tide, all year facility, excellent shelter. Showers available at Kirkwall Sailing Club. All other facilities around the harbour.
STROMNESS MARINA
On the west side of Mainland Orkney you will find the picturesque town of Stromness. With its narrow winding streets and lanes and numerous private piers and slipways Stromness waterfront is an excellent town for a leisurely stroll. A 64 berth marina within the harbour and just yards from the attractions of this historic town. Accessible at all states of tide, all year facility, excellent shelter. Showers, toilets and laundry on site. All other facilities around the harbour.
WESTRAY MARINA
Serviced visitor pontoon facility within Pierowall Harbour. Accessible at all states of tide, summer facility, excellent shelter. Showers and toilets on site.
KIRKJUVAGR
Kirkwall is first recorded in the Orkneyinga Saga and the town itself probably dates from at least the eleventh century.
At this time Kirkwall was referred to by its original name Kirkjuvagr - from the Old Norse meaning 'Church Inlet'. Then Kirkwall was merely a cluster of dwellings around the natural harbour formed by the Peerie Sea and the sand bar known as the Ayre.
THE KIRK BAY
But contrary to popular belief, the town does not take its name from St Magnus Cathedral but probably the smaller church of St Olaf, the only remainder of which is an unassuming doorway in St Olaf's Wynd - an apparantly insignificant little lane branching off one of Kirkwall's old main streets

This is a UK designated port VTS and provides a port Information Service. Scottish mainland ro-ro ferry services via Northlink Ferries operate on a daily basis to the ports of Aberdeen, Lerwick from Hatston and Scrabster from Stromness; a container service operates twice weekly from Lerwick and Aberdeen to Kirkwall.
In addition to the larger vessels using the port facilities, there is a strong commercial inshore fishing fleet located throughout the islands as well as the ever increasing pleasure craft fleet some of which call into our 3 Marinas in Kirkwall, Stromness and Westray... Berthing and landing facilities are provided throughout the islands to meet the needs for these sectors.
Marine Services provides all pilot launch and pilotage services directly as well as Vessel Traffic Services for Scapa Flow and approaches and the Kirkwall Harbour area.
