It's really just great at Klaptrap. My main responsibilities are for Customer Care and Marketing. The Customer Care part is easy. I just send out rude letters and e-mails telling customers that they owe us money and that they should pay us immediately. It's the Marketing that I really enjoy. Working with someone as intelligent and creative as Strachan means that I am listened to. And I learn so much from him. It's astonishing the number of times I discuss an idea with him and it's something that he had already thought of. And, within five minutes, he's an expert in every aspect of it. Marketing is mainly internal to the staff. We encourage an open culture and have spontaneous "Fun Days Out" where we organise fun things to do. Weeks in advance of Fun Days, I send out all the do's and dont's, the rules of the fun and the dress code that must be strictly adhered to. Having an open culture has it's challenges. I organise Big G's and Strachan's diaries for those occasions where staff need to talk to them. Often it is several months ahead before I can find a slot. Frequently, I encourage staff to send an e-mail before the meeting and often find that I can deal with the issue myself. "No" is such as short word, after all. |
