Legend has it that MacDonell
and the third brother, Archie, were hunting together. Stopping
by a rocky outcrop, MacDonell asked Archie if he knew how
to tell the time by using the sun. As his companion gazed
up at the sky to accommodate the enquiry, MacDonell separated
Archie's head from his shoulders with a single stroke from
his broadsword.
As Archie's head rolled down
the rocky outcrop, it was heard to groan "two-o-clock.
Hence "Archie's Rock".
