It looks like a case of Good News/Bad News for
the Simpsons.
Homer and Bart might well be surprised to hear
it, but the family are actually a sept of the powerful Fraser (of
Lovat) Clan.
That's the good news.
Originally from France, the first Fraser, Simon,
appears in Scotland around 1160.
A later Simon Fraser, Clan Chief of the time,
mustered his men for Bonnie Prince Charlie in 1745 and fought at
Culloden, for which rebelliousness he had his head removed from
his shoulders on Tower Hill in April 1747.
Through the ages, Simon appears to be a recurring
Christian name with the Frasers, particularly with the Clan Chiefs,
the Lords of Lovat, and it seems likely that "Simpson"
is derived from "Simon's son".
So the chances are that the original Simpson (Sim's
son) was probably one of the Laird's illegitimate offspring.
That's the bad news.
Hey, it's not our fault if you're probably related
to some serving wench's bastard.
See what happens when you dare dabble with genealogy?
Dooooooohhhh!

Double murderer or much misunderstood
icon?
It's a no-brainer for most folk,
but try telling that to the jury who found him not guilty.
Who says we're all equal in
the eyes of the law?
