The name in Gaelic is rendered as "Mac Gille
Eoin", or "Son of the servant of St.John".
So don't get any fancy ideas above your station
- you're just a skivvie's offspring.
Famous Macleans include;
|
Alistair Maclean
Born in Glasgow, raised in the
Highlands, author of several rollicking good adventure
yarns, including "Ice Station Zebra" and "The
Guns of Navarone".

 |
|
John Maclean
No, not the Bruce Willis character
in the "Die Hard" movies. If this were to have a film made about him, the
difference is it would be a good one. He was Scotland's
first Marxist revolutionary, imprisoned in 1916 for
encouraging the Scottish masses to revolt. Following
the Russian Revolution of 1917, he was released and
the new communist government in Moscow recognised his
efforts to free the enslaved proletariat of Kelvinside
by making him Soviet Consul in Scotland. The British
government also recognised his efforts and threw him
straight back in jail.

|
Sorley Maclean
The Gaelic is a language hoaching
with famous poets. Sorley Maclean was the greatest Gaelic
poet of the 20th century.

|
 |
|
Jim McLean
Permanently miserable former
Manager and Chairman of Dundee United who always has
a face on him like he's swallowed a container load of
soor plooms. The man definitely needs to lighten up
or buy a happy mask.

 |
|
Maclean's Toothpaste
What everyone needs for a brighter
smile. Jim McLean has obviously never used it.
