McConnells have a long and glorious history of leading from the rear. During the Battle of Holyrood, Shaggeus McConnell was the court jester in the House of Dewar. Many jesters have performed the dual function of being both fool and friend to their masters and their advise has been sought by Kings and Queens throughout history.

When Donald of Dewar sought to build a new castle, Shaggeus was in the golden circle of those who advised him. The decision to build the castle out of Spanish stone was a disaster. The building took 140 years to construct and was eventually inhabited by beasts of burden (donkeys and asses). In the bloody assizes that followed the death of Donald of Dewar, Shaggeus assumed the role of "Heid Bummer" and began the long and torturous decline into ennui and ridicule that characterises Scottish masters to this day.
