Mackay, or Macaodh in Gaelic, means "son of Hugh". Precisely who Hugh was, nobody seems sure. It might have been the legendary "Opportunity Knocks" presenter Hughie Green though, because he was a bit of a dark horse who eventually owned up to being Paula Yates' father and allegedly shagged anything in a skirt that moved. So it's entirely possible that he spawned an entire clan of illegitimate sons of Hugh. And we "mean that most sincerely folks".

Famous Mackays include;

Dave Mackay

Uncompromising "hard man" footballer for Tottenham Hotspur and Scotland in the 1960's.

Really good pals with Billy Bremner.

Whyte & Mackay

Fairly average and uninspiring blended Scotch whisky. Certainly not a patch on FirstFoot 10 year old Speyside Single Malt which is quite unique and utterly magnificent.
