The gaelic "MacFhaerghuis" is translated alternatively as "son of the angry" or "son of the bold and proud" according to your preference, although a quick glance at the list of clan members below might well tend to suggest that the former is the more apt of the two.
Ferguson means, naturally, son of Fergus. Most Fergusons will argue that the Fergus in question is none other than Fergus Mor mac Erc, a very early king of the Scots of Dalriada and all-round top chap.
This is of course a lot of bollocks and you are no more related to royalty than a toothpick is to a toilet brush.
