Before the season even kicks off, sad
Fourth Lanark's European adventure ended last night when they
were bundled out of the Interjokey Cup by Estonian part-timers
Nohopars FC.
After a bad-tempered no-scoring draw
in the first leg, Fourth always knew they would face a battle
in the Baltics, but their chances of progressing in the tournament
were certainly not aided by some of the strangest refereeing
decisions ever seen at this level, including the sixth minute
sending-off of striker Luigi Bampotti, apparently for "deliberately
kicking the ball".
Embittered Fourth manager PR Lunatico
was today in the process of preparing an official complaint
to UEFA, accusing the Latvian referee of "extreme bias in
favour of foreigners who can play better than my foreigners
can". "

"I knew ee was dodgy even before ze
game. I offered thee baztard 10 grand but ee sed ee wanted
15. Eet's seemply no fair! My Chairman, ee does not 'ave zis
kind of monnay, yes?"
17 penalties awarded for the home side,
5 of which were converted, does appear to lend some credence
to Lunatico's match-fixing allegations, but it is unlikely
that UEFA will investigate or do anything to reverse the result,
because frankly they're as weak as watered down weewee.
Nohopars will now face Austrian side
Pisch in the next pointless round.
