Highland Glen Lodges

Sutherland, in the Highlands of Scotland, is one of the last great European wildernesses. Only 13,000 people live in the largest county in Britain! Highland Glen Lodges are centrally situated in the heart of all this beauty. 4-star luxury self-catering accommodation high on a hillside with panoramic views of the mountains of Sutherland and the glen below. Centrally situated for easy access to Ardgay, Lairg, Bonar Bridge, Brora, Dornoch, Golspie, Oykel and Rogart. Highland Glen Lodges are situated half a mile south of the A839 which connects Lairg to the A9.

Self-catering lodges set high on a hillside with panoramic views of the mountains of Sutherland and the glen of Strathfleet below. The open plan sitting room opens out onto a balcony which commands spectacular views over the Glen of Strathfleet below. Leading off the sitting room, there is a dining area and very well equipped kitchen.

Highland Glen Lodges are situated in Sutherland one of the last great European wildernesses where eagles soar and red deer run wild. This said, the Lodges are ideally placed for those wishing to explore the full beauty of Scotland. The awe inspiring mountains of the West Coast are within an hours drive, as is the north coast, a sanctuary for millions of sea birds with the highest sea cliffs in Britain. Guests have recorded no less than 104 individual bird species in the parish, many of these at the bird feeders which are located at each lodge. It is no wonder that there are so many ornithologists on the guest list! A visit to John O’Groats and a day trip to Orkney is another popular option with guests. Whether your passion is for Castles or Distilleries, Heritage or Crafts the area rich in variety. In addition to the five Letting Lodges a sixth Lodge is used as an office and Guest Reception facility.

Many of our guests come simply to “be”, to recharge their batteries far from the hustle and bustle of everyday life but travel in any direction from the Lodges and you will find something to amaze or inspire you. Fish one of the many local lochs, cycle along deserted roads, savour a trip to Glenmorangie distillery, watch salmon leap at the Falls of Shin, visit a castle, watch for golden eagles soaring round the Lodges. An ideal base for exploring the Far North and West.

The area is blessed with an immeasurable number of walks but it is blessed with a natural gift...walk in any direction from where you choose to start and within no time at all you are seemingly miles away from civilisation.

But the Highlands isn't just about walking. The chance to travel through some of the most picturesque scenery in Europe for day trips to the Isle of Skye and the fishing village of Ullapool - where a cracking portion of fish and chips and an ice-cream on the jetty wall are the order of the day.

The region is also dotted with some incredible castles to explore. Dunrobin, for example, close to the east coast town of Brora contains one of the best gardens and has such a lively history that even a "history's boring" can be captivated.
