The individuals involved will no doubt see it
differently, but FirstFoot was thrilled and much amused to
read about the two men who were jailed recently for using
a mobile phone in the A&E Department of Edinburgh Royal Infirmary.
Whilst waiting for treatment to a head wound
after being attacked with a glass at a party (obviously mixing
with a nice crowd), the lads decided that it was good to talk
and, ignoring the warning signs dotted around the waiting-room
and the pleas of the staff, refused to switch the damned thing
off.
After
hurling abuse at the nurses and doctors who patiently (pun
intended) pointed out that it could interfere with essential
life-saving equipment, the police were eventually called and
the two men arrested.
Passing
sentences of 60 days and 90 days respectively at Her Majesty's
pleasure, the judge commented that "...neither they (the
hospital staff) nor the patients should have to tolerate behaviour
like this."
Quite
right, your honour. FirstFoot applauds this hard line on tossers
who insist on using Mobile Phones in public and we look forward
to many more examples of this kind being made of them.
Just
as an interesting footnote, the article about the two men
appeared in "The Sun" directly opposite a full page
advertisement for, yes you guessed it, a mobile phone.
Oops.
Nice one Nokia. Not!
