Middle of the Road were responsible
for two seventies hits, either of which are still guaranteed
to clear a room in seconds. "Chirpy, chirpy, cheep, cheep"
and the unforgettable "Tweedle dee and tweedle dum" plumbed
new depths of inanity in pop lyrics, the likes of which have
rarely been heard since, with the possible exceptions of "Agadoo"
and most of Bananarama's greatest hits.
The band are reputedly still performing,
although God only knows why and who for. Nothing could do
more to illustrate how awful this band were than to publish
the powerful and insightful lyrics to this global smash hit:
CHIRPY CHIRPY CHEEP CHEEP
Where's
your momma gone (Where's your momma gone)
Little
baby bird (Little baby bird)
Where's
your momma gone (Where's your momma gone)
Far far
away far far awayayay...
REFRAIN
Last night
I heard my momma singing this song
Ooh wee
chirpy chirpy cheep cheep Woke up this morning and my momma
was gone Ooh wee chirpy chirpy cheep cheep Chirpy chirpy cheep
cheep chirp
Where's
your momma gone (Where's your momma gone)
Little
baby bird (Little baby bird)
Where's
your momma gone (Where's your momma gone)
Far far
away
Where's
your poppa gone (Where's your poppa gone)
Little
baby bird (Little baby bird)
Where's
your poppa gone (Where's your poppa gone)
And so it continues.
Good eh?
